Permit Requirements

When Are Permits Required?

If interested in installing a simple gray water system for your residence, please read the plumbing code and complete the Gray Water Irrigation System Application before applying for permits to install your gray water system. A Plumbing Permit is required and shall be obtained before installing, altering, repairing, replacing or remodeling any building or structure.

This application and permit are intended only for simple systems, such as clothes washer diversion into a gray water system. More complex gray water systems and those proposing storage must submit engineered plans for review and approval as part of their plumbing application.

Who Can be Issued a Permit?

  1. Contractors who are licensed by the State of California with a classification appropriate for the work that will be performed and have a current Business Tax Certificate.
  2. Owners of a building or their legal representative.
