Zoning requirements for rainwater catchment systems vary by project. Zoning Review is generally not required if your project is:
- No larger than 48" L x 48" W
- Located to the rear of your property
- Meets residential setback rules
Most rainwater catchment projects used for irrigation with no pump will not require a Permit. A rainwater catchment system will generally require a Permit if:
- It includes an electrical pump – Electrical Permit will be required
- The system is 5,000 gallons or larger or the height to width ratio exceeds 2:1 – Building Permit will be required
- The system will be used for indoor plumbing – Plumbing Permit will be required
